Strategic Play |
Key Details |
Norio Deep |
Part of the “Kura Basin Heartland” area, Norio Deep has the potential to be a country-changing prospect. The reservoir is part of an already prolific basin and with increasing subsurface definition through the 2019-22 work program offers an attractive prospect for farm-ins and partnership investments.
The block is located partially in the XIM license area (GOG) and partially in Block XIC (Blake Oil and Gas Limited/MND Group AS) and is part of the prolific and proven NW part of the Kura basin.
At an approximate depth of 5500-6500m the basic geology is three way closed thrust related anticline within a fractured Middle Eocene reservoir (the same as in Samgori fields, which produced up to 200 MMbbl of oil).
Norio Deep has been extensively studied and is the most highly ranked play within the GOG portfolio with the best geological chance of success.
The estimated most likely resource is 334 MMBbl of oil (in the range of 44-957 MMbbl) or most likely 225 Bcm (52-707 Bcm) of gas distributed across Block XIM and Block XIC, as verified independently by GEPlan. |
Kavtiskhevi-Didgori |
Part of the Kura Basin Heartland area and contained within the NE part of license block VIII and the border of Schlumberger Block IX.
At an approximate depth of 2500-4500 m the basic geology is four way closed thrust related anticline with a fracture porosity reservoir type (Middle Eocene and Upper Cretaceous age in Kavtiskhevi and Lower Eocene in Didgori prospect).
The potential most likely resource is believed by GOG to be 856 MMbbl of oil (in the range of 81-3800 MMbbl) as verified independently by GEPlan. |
North Kitchen |
The North Kitchen play is also part of the Kura Basin Heartland combining 4 GOG license areas (XIN, IXA, XIL, XIK) and the NW edge of Schlumberger license area X with prolific Maikop and Upper Eocene source rocks.
The GOG licenses are some 1046 km2 in total across the four blocks.
At an approximate depth of 3000-5000 m in under-thrust zones it is possible to find three way closed thrust related sandstone anticlines within Upper Eocene and Maikop zones. Size of the accumulations and resources to be estimated after running the Work program 2019-2021.
The strategic intent is to acquire additional acreage (up to 4000 km2) for this future source rock play north of the Kura Basin Heartland. |
M. Eocene Shallow |
The M.Eocene Shallow play extends towards Azerbaijan and consists of the south edge of Block XIM, Block XIII and Block XIG next to Block XIF of Block Energy. This includes up to 3000 km2 of license area within the GOG portfolio.
This is shallow Middle Eocene plays (approximately 2500 m deep) in an extension of the Samgori fields (historically largest oil field in Georgia, produced up to 200 MMbbl) down to Azerbaijan Middle Eocene fields (Muradkhanli, Tars Dallier), where it is possible to produce oil by re-entering and horizontal sidetrack drilling from the numerous existing wells.
The most recent successful horizontal drilling in Georgia was performed in Block XIF West Rustavi field by Block Energy (currently 1000 bopd production). |
U. Eocene Subshale |
The U.Eocene subshale play extends towards Azerbaijan and consists of the south edge of Block XIM, Block XIII and Block XIG. The play is adjacent to Block XIF of Block Energy and in total includes some 3000 km2 of licenses within the GOG portfolio.
This series of shallow Upper Eocene plays (approximately 2000-2500 m deep) are the so called Navtlughi suite shales, which is believed to be the main source rock in Samgori fields (historically largest oil field in Georgia, which produced up to 200 MMbbl). It is possible to produce oil by re-entering existing Middle Eocene wells, horizontal sidetrack drilling and fracking of Navtlughi shales. |
South Kitchen |
The Jurassic source South Kitchen is an extensive geological structure with possible extensions into Turkey and Armenia. The play includes the south part of Block VIII and Block XIV with licenses up to a total area of some 6000 km2.
Although not studied yet, based on newly acquired Gravity Bouguer by GOG maps its large area can accumulate substantial volumes of oil and gas, which is the goal for Stage 1 of GOG’s Work program. |
