GOG’s portfolio encompasses exploration and assessment projects around Samgori fields (which produced 186 MMbbl within 10 years) with large scale upside. The exploration projects are being combined under two main license blocks with updated and attractive commercial terms: North Samgori XIQ and South Samgori.
16 prospective multi-target exploration plays are with prospective and contingent resources based on 2D and 3D seismic and well data withing North Samgori and South Samgori block. Prospective resources (MMbbl of oil and Bcf of gas) were audited by DeGolyer & MacNaughton in 2023-2024.
Within this portfolio, Martkopi Terrace (in North Samgori) and South Samgori-Nakarala (in South Samgori) prospects have the potential to be the country-changing prospects. The reservoir is part of an already prolific basin and with increasing subsurface definition through the 2024-2028 work program offers an attractive prospect for farm-ins and partnership investments. GOG has a successful track-record of developing and executing a corporate strategy based our extensive regional subsurface understanding combined with international experience.

Strategic Play | Key Details |
Martkopi Terrace Prospect | Part of the “Kura Basin Heartland” area, Martkopi Terrace is a four-way closed anticline terrace next to Samgori-Patardzeuli oil field (which produced up to 200 MMbbl of oil) has the potential to be a country-changing prospect and is the best candidate for first exploration drilling. In 2023 DeGolyer & MacNaughton estimated unrisked prospective resources 267 MMbbl in Middle Eocene fractured porous tuffs + 22 MMbbl upside in Upper Eocene sandstones. The reservoir is part of an already prolific basin and with increasing subsurface definition through the 2024-27 work program offers an attractive prospect for farm-ins and partnership investments. The block is located in the XIQ license area (GOGL, GOGC, Block Energy) and is part of the prolific and proven NW part of the Kura basin. At an approximate depth of 4800-5500m the basic geology is four-to-three way closed thrust related anticline within a fractured Middle Eocene reservoir (the same as in Samgori fields). Martkopi Terrace has been extensively studied (half with 3D and half with 2D seismic) and is the most highly ranked play within the GOG portfolio with the best geological chance of success. |
Martkopi Deep | Martkopi Deep gas Lead is a part of prospective Norio-Martkopi under-thrust anticline trend. The block is located in the XIQ license area (GOGL+GOGC) which is a part of the prolific and proven NW part of the Kura basin. At an approximate depth of 5500-6000m the basic geology is four way closed under-thrust anticline within a fractured Middle Eocene reservoir (the same as in Samgori fields, which produced up to 200 MMbbl of oil). Martkopi Deep has been extensively studied with 2D seismic. The estimated mean unrisked resource is 207 Bcf of gas in Middle Eocene fractured reservoir + 3.3 MMbbl of oil in Upper Eocene sandstones, as verified independently in 2023 by DeGolyer & MacNaughton. |
Norio Intermediate | Norio Intermediate shallow (1400-2900 m) prospect is a three-way closed thrust related anticline within Lower Miocene and Middle Miocene age sandstone reservoirs located below shallow Norio-Satskhenisi oil field (produced 2 MMBbl of oil) and above oil test in deep NOR72 well. The prospect is located partially in the XIQ license area (GOGL+GOGC) and partially in Block XIC (Blake Oil and Gas Limited/MND Group AS) and is part of the prolific and proven NW part of the Kura basin. Norio Intermediate has been extensively studied with 2D seismic and the estimated unrisked resource is 29.2 MMBbl of oil as verified independently in 2023 by DeGolyer & MacNaughton. |
South Samgori-Nakarala | South Samgori-Nakarala Terrace prospect is a three-way closure sub-thrust anticline below Samgori-Patardzeuli field (which produced up to 200 MMbbl of oil) – southern analogue of Martkopi Terrace prospect. The prospect is located in the XIB-West Nakarala license area (GOGL+Block Energy). The structure is a part of the Southern gas-prone source kitchen and estimated unrisked resources in Middle Eocene fractured reservoir (the same as in Samgori-Patardzeuli field) are 549 Bcf of gas as verified independently in 2023 by DeGolyer & MacNaughton. South Samgori-Nakarala terrace is at the edge and is fully covered by Sartichala 3D seismic and additionally confirmed with multiple 2D seismic lines. As a part of 2024 work program, the structure is going to be fully covered with modern 3D seismic. |
South Ninotsminda-Manavi | South Ninotsminda-Manavi Terrace prospect is a three-way closure sub-thrust anticline below Ninotsminda-Manavi anticline – north-eastern southern analogue of South Samgori-Nakarala Terrace prospect. The prospect is partially located in the XIL license area (GOGL) and partially is in relinquished area to be combined with South Samgori license block. The structure is a part of the Southern gas-prone source kitchen and estimated unrisked resources in Middle Eocene fractured reservoir (the same as in Samgori-Patardzeuli field) are 271 Bcf of gas as verified independently in 2023 by DeGolyer & MacNaughton. South Samgori-Nakarala terrace is confirmed with multiple 2D seismic lines. |
Gardabani North |
Gardabani North prospect is a three-way closure sub-thrust anticline identified with multiple 2D seismic lines in the middle of prolific South Source Kitchen and East Rustavi Gas discovery. The prospect is partially located in the XIB-West Nakarala license area (GOGL + Block Energy) and partially in XIH license area (GOGL). The structure is a part of the Southern gas-prone source kitchen and estimated unrisked resources in Middle Eocene fractured reservoir (the same as in Samgori-Patardzeuli field) are 290 Bcf of gas as verified independently in 2023 by DeGolyer & MacNaughton. As a part of 2024 work program, the structure is going to be fully covered with modern 3D seismic. |
